History of the Firm

A Brief History of Sproule Gordon

Sproule Gordon Criminal Law

The current firm traces its history back to 1990. Back then, Kevin Sproule (having been admitted to the bar in 1982) was practicing with Grant Alton & Sproule in Stettler, Alberta, and Pamela MacNaughton was employed by Crowe Duhamel Manning in Red Deer. In 1990, Pam purchased the law practice of Gale Prestash, and Kevin joined shortly thereafter, with the firm name Sproule MacNaughton first being used in 1991.

That same year, John MacNaughton joined the firm, followed by Patricia MacNaughton in 1997. The legal ties were enhanced by the fact that David MacNaughton, the father of Pam, John and Patty, was himself a lawyer and subsequently a Provincial Court Judge, now retired. In addition, John was and is married to Carolyn Tulloch, a veteran practicing lawyer in Innisfail, Alberta. Pam left the firm in 1997 to pursue other legal ventures, as did Patty in 2012.

Gregory Gordon articled with the firm starting in 2012, and subsequently joined the firm as an associate in 2013 after being admitted to the Bar of Alberta. John MacNaughton retired from the practice of law in the spring of 2014, after almost a quarter century of top-notch service to his clients. In June 2014, the firm changed its name to Sproule Gordon. Jacqueline Fry articled with the firm in 2014, and was admitted to the Bar in 2015, before moving on to a post with the Legal Aid Society of Alberta in 2017.
